John Elwick - Colinsville
Final rites for John Elwick, a retired blacksmith who died Tuesday at St May's Hospital, East St. Louis, have been set for 2 pm Friday from the Schroeppel Funeral Home. The Rev. C H Kuhlman of St John's United Church of Christ will officiate with interment in the church cemetery.
Mr Elwick, a Collinsville resident for 59 years made his home at 245 n. Seminary St. He was born Dec 27 1875 in Stewart County, Tenn., the son of Henry and Tennesse Daniel Elwick. His wife and a daughter preceded him in death.
Survivors are four children Noah, H Wilton, and Mrs H W (Othella) Berlemann, all of Collinsville, and John W od Sequim, Wash.; a sister Mrs Ben (Lula) Gansner of Collinsville; 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
The body is in state this afternoon at the funeral home.

Son of Maynard & Clara (Tysdahl) Elwick. On April 21, 1939, he married Thelma Wierson in Radcliffe. In 1941, they moved to a farm south of Radcliffe where he farmed all his working like. He retired in 1992. He also sold feed and seed. He is survived by his wife, Thelma; daughter and son-in-law, Vonda & William Fritz, Zearing; grandchildren, Peggy & Jeffrey; brother, Ralph, Radcliffe; and sister, Donna Lorenzen, Radcliffe. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lowell. Parents: Maynard Elial Elwick and Clara Olive Tysdale.
